The St. Barnabas Endowment Fund
An endowment is an investment fund designed to receive gifts and bequests which are maintained on a long-term basis to support the church’s mission into the future. Each year, a percentage of the interest earned on the investments is distributed for use by the church.
The Diocese of Ohio maintains a Joint Investment Fund in which churches from across the Diocese pool their resources. This allows congregations of modest means, like ours, access to first-rate professional investment management. Investing through the Diocese also ensures that our endowment is managed in a socially responsible way according to our values. A tiny percentage of that diocesan Joint Investment Fund belongs to St. Barnabas.
It is the intent of the Vestry that no interest payments be distributed from our endowment until it reaches $250,000. Until that point, any earned interest will be reinvested into the endowment. You can help us achieve that goal – and perpetuate your values into the future – by making a gift to our endowment or naming our endowment in your estate. Please contact Father Alex for more information about how you can be a part of this legacy.
When we start receiving distributions from our investments, we will collect a percentage of interest, determined by the Trustees of the Diocese, which will avoid cutting into the core principal of the endowment. The funds distributed back to us will be unrestricted, allowing future vestries to determine how the money can best be used to advance the mission of St. Barnabas.
In the coming years, our endowment will grow and help ensure that St. Barnabas will stand as a beacon of God’s unwavering love and mercy for many generations to come.
